The problems started when I tried to activate my account. When I clicked the link in my e-mail, the page asked me to login. And login again. And again. And again. Instead of proceeding, I was continually returned to the same page, which said "Error: Please login to continue."
So I tried to login normally, through the front page. Although I was marked online in the "Users" box and on my profile, the box at the top still marked me as a guest and told me to login. Even worse, I realized that I could not post, as a guest or logged in. It was not a question of permission, or even of a bug in the source: the reply button was simply not there.
Naturally (otherwise my words here would not be inserting themselves into your brain), I was able to do all of these forbidden tasks, but only on other computers. And, yes, after activation, that same computer still left me unable to post.
Obviously, there is a problem with the way that my computer is obtaining your page. I could give out any relevant specs, but the only out-of-the-ordinary detail is that the computer is running IE7. Are there any known bugs in IE7, and if so, is there a way to fix them?

you can't reply as a guest as all, because of spam problems, but the other problem is highly unusual

Good to see you, ET. (Did your mom really say IE7 was the devil's work, i.e. were those her exact words?... And more importantly, do you do this kind of stuff instinctively now?? Has it so engrained itself in the way that you think that you do it instinctively?)

I use IE7 atm, and it's always worked very well for me (it hasn't crashed, not let me load anything, etc) So unless it was the beta version (which did have some bugs, but it was just a beta) I'm not sure what would cause that

Could it be that the original browser is set up not to accept cookies? Would that have the effect Allispaul is mentioning?

I'm pretty sure that it accepts cookies. If guests are not allowed to post, then the problem is that my computer is not recognizing me as logged in. Thanks for the help anyway!
EDIT as of 2/3/07: I installed IE7 on the other computer, and I can use these forums normally. So it could be either a problem with the computer or with the specific version of the browser (I'm not running Vista, so it's probably a beta.)
