I have read this series a few years back and it has one of the best stories I have ever read to it. The three books in the series are, The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. There will also be a movie coming out in december, I heard about this a few months ago and think it looks great. I finally got to see a trailer for it when I saw the new Pirates movie. I just haven't really found anyone else who has read this series and feel like I am part of just a few who actually have heard of it.

What you have found nobody else who has read them? I love these books they're among my top 5 series of all time. I think the books have a great storyline and some of the best thinking ideas i have ever heard. Yes i have already head about the movie and am very very excited to see how it comes out. I wonder do you think their keeping the anti-organized religion aspects of the story in the movie or they will get rid of a lot of it.
oh Haiku thanks for putting this in here i should of done it a while ago

By the trailer I have seen on imdb and in the movies it looks like they are keeping all of the war on god stuff. Out of what I have seen Phil Pullman has a heavy hand in what has happened in the movie too.
They have a great cast too. Sam Elliot as Lee is perfect, and Daniel Craig as Asriel. Good thing too, SEGA is making a game. One of the things I want to see is the fight of Iorek and the bear that took the kingdom from him.

"I wonder to this day where exactly that AIM guy is running to... Or is he running from someone??" ... he's not he's running aimlessly...
So now that you've all seen the Golden Compass what did you think??

I wonder if the book was better than the movie? The film seemed like it was trying to accomplish way too much in too short of a time, and I never developed any real affection for the characters. Plus, Nicole Kidman... yeech.

I enjoyed the movie. But that's probably because I read the books. The movie did cut out some things, and reading the book you understand why the ending seemed so abrupt.
It could have been fine tuned a little but it seems they did it that way to set up the sequal with some more action in the begining and maybe some mystery for those who didn't read it.
ET I did enjoy the movie a lot, but as usual the book definitely has more to offer.
