Foreword: This poem is very important to me, because I wrote it for my sister, who was adopted by us after having lived with an abusive family
It’s not fair, not fair Not at all; You’ve done nothing wrong The only thing you did Was live.
It’s not fair, not fair Not at all; I wish for the same Every time I see it I wish to be there, to defend To defend you from them Who don’t want you To Live
I wish for the same Every time I see it I see it the same Every time I see it That terror and pain So clear in your eyes Screaming.
Screaming, loud, So loud The screaming in your eyes Deafens to the point The screams from your mouth Are lost, unheard
Just as unheard as they were, By the ears of the one who Left you like this Left you like this.
For you it was not too late But for some… for some Help never comes… Never comes… They lie all alone, asking What did I do? But they did nothing wrong All they did Was live.
It’s not fair, not fair Not at all; I wish for the same Every time I see it I wish to be there, to defend To defend you from them Who don’t want you To Live

I can understand the feeling behind this, I am the oldest of 3 and my younger siblings were abused by my father who was on drugs at the time. That was a good number of years ago and for the most part things are better, but I understand the frustration of finding out and wishing you could go and stop it from happening in the past.
The sad thing is that this happens so often, and usually because of irrisponsible addiction.

it truly is terrible, and, sadly, it happens every day... I could never be an officer or on the court for these cases... or something would happen to the abuser... I don't have enough control... the people who deal with this have a lot more patience than I do
