 Online bookmark sites?
« Thread Started on May 27, 2009, 1:29am »

Does anyone use Joshua Kent's "Enhanced Bookmarks" gadget on iGoogle? It has become such a part of my life that I am literally unproductive without it! (A dangerous dependency to have developed, I'm already aware :) ) See, Google changed its policy on inlined gadgets, and so this gadget is broken now, and doesn't look like it's coming back anytime soon.

I really liked its ability to group my bookmarks, display the text small and with the destination site's favicon beside it. It also had bottons to launch the link in either the same window or a new tab! In fact, by adding the gadget multiple times, I could have essentially three columns of bookmarks, grouped by topics.

Does anyone use any similar sites to manage their bookmarks? Early excursions into del.icio.us and digg have not really met my needs. The sites are way too focused on tagging and sharing, neither of which I want/need. The design is so clunks and "airy", too - far too much wasted white space, font sized too big (and some are fixed size in this day and age!).

Having them online is a necessity as I have to work and surf from far too many computers in the course of an average day.

Thanks for any suggestions!

So far the most promising looks like xmarks.com.... it required you to install a plug-in to grab your existing bookmarks from your browser, but it appears you can uninstall the plug-in afterwards and the imported bookmarks will still appear on the web page.

No way to import bookmarks manually w/o toolbar is a strike against, but the ability to then have the bookmarks available on PCs without the plug-in (through the web) is a plus.

With the iFrame gadget available at http://www.google.ca/ig/directory?hl=en&url=danico.googlepages.com%2Fiframe.xml I am now able to see my bookmarks right through my iGoogle page. The only thing missing is the favicon display.

(Which makes me remember... I need to set a favicon for this site...)
